An idea that chaos is the new normal and in a chaos economy, fixed, dogmatic, rigid structures just don’t work, not for long anyway. To even survive, let alone thrive, as Taleb coined, we must be antifragile.
As such the philosophical idea that ‘instead of waiting for the storm to pass, we must learn how to dance in the rain’ rings true for us. Newbridge therefore, is the embodiment of that philosophy.
I believe that the framework for this new normal is VUCA which is the acronym for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity. In this new normal, we can’t bunker down and wait for a crisis to pass, after this, they’ll be another one and another one after that. Instead we have to be resilient, vigilant, flexible and nimble enough to keep moving forward, in spite of chaos.
The antidote to a VUCA reality is VUCA leadership, this time standing for Vision, Understanding, Clarity and Agility. This is exactly what Newbridge has set out to deliver. We aim to partner with and create, independent, cell-based organisations (not rigid, pyramid hierarchies) that can benefit from scale without compromising their own identity and have the landscape fit to thrive in this new normal. I created Newbridge to facilitate this idea.
